America Remembers 9/11

Today marks the 22nd anniversary of the tragic and devastating attacks on September 11th.

I can still remember that day like yesterday. While Americans have since added January 6th to our lexicon, it’s up there with Pearl Harbor, the JFK and MLK assassinations as far as knowing where we were when it happened. I was a high school junior and sitting in my second period. When I first heard that there was an attack, my first thought was that something horrible happened in Israel. I couldn’t have been more wrong. We soon had our eyes clued to the TV where we saw the second plane hit the tower and as the morning went on, both towers would fall within a few hours time. Until January 6, 2021, it was the single worst day that I recall living through.

A week later, Major League Baseball resumed play. Prior to the St. Louis Cardinals game, broadcaster Jack Buck made one of his final public appearances when he read a poem, For America. The YouTube video is below and it will never not be emotional while watching.
