Danielle Solzman has been a fan of baseball ever since she attended Louisville Redbirds baseball games during her childhood. Because the Redbirds were the St. Louis Cardinals AAA affiliate, Solzman would adopt the Cardinals as her favorite MLB team and the allegiance has been there ever since. She attended at least one MLB game during 1995-2014 and has taken in two STL-CHC games at Wrigley Field. A member of the Internet Baseball Writers Association of America (IBWAA), she previously covered the Cardinals for Redbird Rants and returned to sports journalism in summer 2023 after an eight-year absence.

One of the things that Solzman is looking to do with Dugout Dirt is write about ballpark tours. She attended one ballgame and nine MLB ballpark tours in 2023. She also reads memoirs and biographies by and about members of the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Solzman also covers film and TV at Solzy at the Movies and writes about various things at SATM on Buttondown.

A native of Louisville, KY, she holds a BA in Public Relations from Northern Kentucky University and a MA in Media Communications from Webster University. She roots for her beloved Kentucky Wildcats, St. Louis Cardinals, and Boston Celtics. She is a member of the Critics Choice AssociationGaleca: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics, Alliance of Women Film Journalists, Online Film Critics Society, Online Association of Female Film Critics, and the Online Film and Television Association. She is also accredited in the Motion Picture Association’s Domestic Press Directory.

In addition to Redbird Rants, she has previously written for Wildcat Blue Nation, and Hidden Remote/Flicksided. She currently contributes to Awards Focus. A Tomatometer-critic on Rotten Tomatoes, she has also contributed to Bleeding Cool, /Film, FF2 Media, Shondaland, Pride, Broadly, AlmaCultured Vultures, Consequence of Sound, Windy City Times, Out Magazine, The Young Folks, Below the Line, Above the Line, Last Word on Sports, and New Thinking. Solzman was previously a contributing film critic to the IndieWire critics survey.
